Class: Luggage Rider Carry-on Bag

Class Description: In this class you will be making the Luggage Rider Carry-on Bag, installing a magnetic snap, and
sewing straight seams. No zippers in this pattern. We will be sewing through two layer of foam, so be sure that your
machine can handle the bulk. Pre-work required.
Supply List
? Luggage Rider Carry-on Bag patten (purchase before class – There is prework involved, cutting out fabric and
fusing the interfacing on.
? See pattern for fabric requirements. If you want to make your straps in a different fabric as shown in the shop
sample, you will need 2/3 yard of fabric for the strap and less yardage for the lining fabric.
? General sewing supplies
? Cut n’ Press or wool mat (small ironing surface)
? Water soluble pen, earasble or frixion pen.
? Polyester thread (stronger than cotton, best for bags) that matches exterior and lining.
? Rotary cutter – a new sharp blade is helpful.
? Size 14 or 16 denim needle or Microtex needle
? Small iron
? Small Scissors.
? Medium size cutting mat
? Sewing machine with prewound bobbins that will sew through two layers of foam.
? Good quality sharp pins and/or wonder clips.
? Pins that will be going through the foam
? Seam ripper, seam gauge (optional)
? Point turner (optional)
Fabric

? Exterior fabric (Canvas, Cotton-Linen or Cotton-Flax) 1 yards
? Lining fabric (Quilting cotton 1 1/3 yard
? If making straps of different fabric 2/3 yard for straps and adjust amount of lining fabric to ¾
yard.
? One sided fusible foam (Pellon ) 2/3 yard
? 7/8-yard fusible fleece.
? ¾ inch magnetic snap

Pre- class instructions
? Cut all fabric.
? Apply fusible foam to wrong side of body, one half of pocket and sleeve, flap and fleece to lining.as instructed in
pattern to exterior fabric.

We will be taking a 30 min lunch break. There is a fridge and microwave available if you want to bring lunch or quick and
easy take-out nearby!
