Class: Umbrella

This class is for a confident beginner and will have a MAX # of students of 6 per class with prework.

Cost: $77 Includes $45 class, your Kit (Kit: umbrella frame & weatherproofing that we will do for you), and your pattern.

Class Description:  In this class you will be learning how to make a golf umbrella.  There is pre-work for the class that must be completed before you arrive.

• Umbrella pattern

• Umbrella frame will be supplied in class as part of your kit fee.

• Fabric –   Cotton fabric works best for this umbrella.  The fabric needs to have some give to stretch over the frame.  You have several choices on how to combine fabric

• FOR 48" wooden umbrella - 2 yards of 1 fabric selection – non directional/not fussy cut (pattern calls for 1 ½ yards, but it leaves very little to spare)

• ½ yard of fabric will cut 2 panels.  You will need a total of 8 panels.

• 2/3 yard of fabric will give you 3 panels

• Example:  If you want a blue/green umbrella.  Get 1 yard of blue and 1 yard of green

• Example:  If you want a blue/green and yellow umbrella.  Get ½ yard blue, ½ yard green and 1 yard of yellow.  Your umbrella will be "Blue/yellow/green/yellow/blue/yellow/green/yellow.

• For Golf umbrella - 3 1/3 yards or 30" for 2 panels - you need a total of 8 panels or 120"

• Polyester matching thread (Same thread you would sew a purse with) or polyester and cotton blend thread.

• 8 safety pins – Medium size

• Regular hand sewing needle

General sewing supplies

• Rotary cutter 

• Scissors

• seam ripper

Pre-work

• Cut out 8 panels of fabric using the pattern

We will be taking a 30 min lunch break.  There is a fridge and microwave available if you want to bring a lunch or quick and easy take out nearby!
